Reading the map
Blue counties voted more Democratic and red counties more Republican; deeper color means a wider margin. The emphasis slider deepens one party's color and fades the other's without changing any number, which makes the strongest counties for either side easy to pick out.
In the shift views, color shows the direction a county moved, not who won it. A county can be deep red and still have shifted toward Democrats. Each county is compared with the same places in the earlier election, and a comparison waits until nearly all of a county has reported, since early ballots can lean one way. Counties with no fair comparison are hatched.
The 2026 vote view includes every House race, even uncontested ones, so a county in a one-party district can look lopsided. The shift views leave those districts out. Alaska reports by state legislative district, so it is shown as one statewide value.
